QuNorth and Microsoft to host second quantum development workshop

Following a successful workshop on quantum error correction in October, QuNorth and Microsoft Quantum are bringing Nordic researchers and developers together again for a full day of hands-on work with Microsoft’s Quantum Development Kit, this time with a focus on tools and applications

On December 9, QuNorth and Microsoft Quantum will host Microsoft QDK: Tools and Applications, a technical workshop in Copenhagen designed to give researchers, developers and technical specialists practical experience with the latest capabilities of Microsoft’s Quantum Development Kit (QDK).
The QDK is Microsoft’s free, open-source toolkit for developing quantum applications. It brings together tools for quantum programming, simulation and debugging, device modelling, resource estimation and other parts of the quantum development workflow.
The December workshop will introduce participants to these capabilities before moving into a deeper technical focus on QDK for chemistry applications. Through guided exercises, participants will explore how the tools can support quantum chemistry workflows and gain practical experience working with them in Visual Studio Code and Jupyter notebooks.
Microsoft engineers and researchers developing the tools will be on hand throughout the day, giving participants an opportunity to experiment, ask questions and provide feedback directly to the teams building the software.
Building experience ahead of Magne
The workshop is part of a broader effort by QuNorth and its technology partners to help build the skills and experience needed to make effective use of advanced quantum computing infrastructure in the Nordic region.
Magne, the Level 2 quantum computer being built at QuNorth, is planned to launch in 2027 for shared use by researchers, startups and enterprises across the Nordic region.
Preparing for that access means more than making quantum hardware available. Researchers also need experience with the software tools and development workflows that allow them to formulate problems, test approaches and understand the resources required to run useful quantum computations.
The December workshop is therefore designed around practical experience. Participants will work directly with the QDK rather than only hearing about its capabilities, with the aim of giving them knowledge and workflows they can continue to build on in their own research.
The workshop follows a successful October workshop session hosted by QuNorth and Microsoft Quantum, where members of the Nordic quantum error correction community gained hands-on experience with Microsoft’s Quantum Development Kit for Error Correction (QDK-EC).
Practical information
The workshop is intended for researchers, developers and technical specialists from across the Nordics who have introductory knowledge of quantum computing and chemistry, comfort working with Python, and basic familiarity with linear algebra.
Date: December 9, 2026
Time: 9:00 - 16:00
Place: NH Collection Copenhagen
Cost: Participation is free, but participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation.
Space is limited, and participation is therefore based on an expression of interest. QuNorth and Microsoft will review submissions, taking into account the relevance of the workshop to participants’ work as well as representation across the Nordic research community. Selected participants will be notified by Friday 13 November.
